Derek Beach Obituary, Death;- Police in Lincoln, Maine, fatally shot a man on Wednesday evening after he advanced towards them wielding a knife.
According to Lincoln police, officers were dispatched to a trespassing report at a location on Whalen Street at 8:36 p.m. on Wednesday. The individual who made the call indicated that a man identified as Derek Beach was present at the location, despite an active protection from abuse order and bail conditions prohibiting his return to the residence.
Upon their arrival, officers attempted to engage Beach in dialogue; however, he did not comply with their requests and was subsequently subdued with a stun gun, as reported by the police. Following this, he lunged at the officers with a knife, prompting two officers to discharge their firearms.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. The officers involved in the shooting, Sgt. Michael Winslow and Officer Kristopher Milner, have been placed on administrative leave in accordance with standard protocol for incidents involving deadly force, as stated by the police.
The Maine Attorney General’s Office will conduct an investigation into the shooting, with the Penobscot Sheriff’s Office providing assistance to Lincoln police in the initial criminal inquiry.
