David Leroy Kintz Jr Obituary, Death;- The Des Moines Police Department has disclosed the identity of the individual who was shot and killed by officers in early February.
As reported by DMPD, the incident took place at approximately 8:41 p.m. on February 6 in the 1200 block of Maury Street, during an active investigation into methamphetamine trafficking. The individual, identified as 43-year-old David Leroy Kintz Jr., was a passenger in a vehicle that was being monitored by the Narcotics Section of DMPD.
According to police, Kintz exited the vehicle and began walking along Maury Street when he was approached by two uniformed officers from DMPD. During the attempt to detain him, Kintz brandished a handgun, leading to a confrontation in which the officers discharged their firearms. Kintz was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The officers involved in the incident are Senior Police Officer Neal Shaffer, who has been with the department since 2018, and Senior Police Officer Titus Deford, who joined the department in 2020. Both officers have been assigned to administrative duties.
The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation is actively pursuing the investigation into the shooting.
