David Allen Smith Obituary, Death; – An investigation is currently in progress following a fatal accident in central Phoenix that resulted in the death of a bicyclist on Tuesday night. According to city police, the driver involved may be subject to DUI charges.
The incident occurred at approximately 9 p.m. near the intersection of 19th Avenue and Van Buren Street, as reported by initial police accounts. Upon arrival, officers discovered the bicyclist, identified as 57-year-old David Allen Smith, suffering from severe injuries.
Reports indicate that Smith was crossing mid-block on his bicycle when he was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound on Van Buren Street. Emergency responders transported Smith to the hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The driver remained at the scene and exhibited signs of impairment, according to police. He has since been released but may face charges contingent upon the outcomes of a comprehensive impairment assessment.
