Victoria Valdez Obituary, Death; – A man has been arrested in connection with a woman’s murder on Friday after he reportedly called 911 to confess to the crime, according to the San Marcos Police Department.
At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Friday, the police received a 911 call from an individual who claimed he had just “killed his wife” and stated that he “shot her.” After the call ended, the dispatcher attempted to reach the caller several times but was unsuccessful.
Upon arrival at the scene, located in the 800 block of River Road, officers discovered the back door of the residence ajar. Conducting an emergency welfare check, they entered the apartment and found a woman deceased in the back bedroom from a gunshot wound. She was later identified as 43-year-old Victoria Valdez.
Authorities indicated that preliminary information directed investigators to the suspect, identified as 47-year-old Juan Manuel Yanez. Detectives were able to connect Yanez to the phone number used to place the 911 call. Reports suggest that Yanez had a relationship with Valdez.
When police arrived, Yanez was not present at the residence, and his vehicle was absent from the vicinity. However, deputies from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office located Yanez in an area he was known to frequent.
Yanez led the deputies on a pursuit through a neighborhood, during which a deputy discharged a firearm, believing Yanez was armed. He was apprehended around 8 p.m. on Friday and was evaluated by medical personnel, who confirmed he had not sustained any gunshot wounds.
Yanez has been charged with murder and is currently being held in a Harris County jail with a bond set at $100,000. The investigation into this incident is ongoing, and no further information is available at this time.
