Christon Deandre Thorn Obituary, Death; – An 18-year-old is charged in a Birmingham exchange of gunfire that left one man dead and the suspect himself injured.
David Hunter is charged with murder in the Monday slaying of 42-year-old Christon Deandre Thorn. Hunter remains hospitalized at UAB.
The exchange of gunfire is believed to have started with a domestic argument between Thorn and his girlfriend. It escalated into an exchange of gunfire Hunter, police said. The shooting happened at 4:35 p.m. in the 1500 block of 52nd Street in Ensley in the Central Park neighborhood.
“Officers were on the scene within seconds,’’ said Officer Truman Fitzgerald. “We had some officers nearby.”
The arrived to find Thorn and Hunter wounded outside of house. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced Thorn dead on the scene at 4:53 p.m.
Hunter was rushed to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries. His current condition was not immediately available. Fitzgerald said it appears Thorn had been involved in a domestic argument, possibly with his girlfriend.
Guns were then drawn, and the shooting happened. Hunter is either a friend or family friend of the girlfriend, Fitzgerald said. Shot Spotter registered at least 10 rounds exchanged between the two males.
