Police in Chesapeake are investigating a tragic case of an apparent murder-suicide that left a woman and three children dead.
Authorities responded to a welfare check just before 7 a.m. in the 3000 block of Welcome Road. Upon arrival, officers determined that an armed woman was inside the residence. After unsuccessful negotiation attempts, the SWAT team was called in for assistance.
Believing there was a high likelihood that juveniles inside the home were deceased, the SWAT team made an emergency entry. Inside, officers discovered the bodies of three children and a woman, who had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The woman was later identified as Cymone King, who had fatally shot her three children before taking her own life.
A friend, Ivonni, shared that King had called earlier, stating she had killed the children and planned to take her own life following a breakup with her girlfriend.
Nearby resident Shana Hicks recalled hearing intense screaming from the home early that morning, initially assuming it was a typical morning struggle as children prepared for school.
The case remains under investigation, and authorities have yet to release further details.
