MATTHEWS, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Matthews man has been charged in connection to the distribution of child sexual abuse material, authorities announced on Thursday.
Matthews detectives received a tip through the Internet Crimes Against Children database and opened an investigation. Jean Paul Vaca-Lopez, 22, of Matthews, was identified as the suspect.
The North Carolina Bureau of Investigation and Matthews Police executed a search warrant at Vaca-Lopez’s home on Jan. 23.
Evidence was collected from the home that included lewd photos of underage children between the ages of 8 and 14, according to court documents.
Vaca-Lopez has been charged with nine counts of felony second-degree exploitation of a minor. He was transported to the Mecklenburg County Jail on Feb. 6 and has since been released.
His bond was originally set at $15,000 unsecured.
Vaca-Lopez is due back in court at the end of February.
