Fabian Zamora,Carolina Navarrete De Leal Obituary, Death; – Two individuals lost their lives in a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 10, which resulted in significant delays for westbound traffic near Washington Street for several hours.
The California Highway Patrol reported the incident shortly after 1 p.m. on Tuesday, near mile marker 49. According to CHP Officer Rafael Espinosa, a white Toyota was traveling west in the second lane when, for reasons yet to be determined, the driver suddenly veered to the right, colliding with a blue semi-truck and trailer in the adjacent lane.
“The collision caused the driver of the white Toyota to strike a red semi-truck and trailer that was disabled and parked on the right shoulder,” Espinosa stated in an email. “A white tire repair truck was positioned directly in front of the disabled red semi-truck and trailer.”
Subsequently, the blue semi-truck collided with the repair truck and its driver, who was attending to the disabled vehicle. Both the driver of the white Toyota and the maintenance repair driver were pronounced dead at the scene, as confirmed by Espinosa. They were later identified as 31-year-old Fabian Zamora from Indio and 49-year-old Carolina Navarrete De Leal from Coachella.
The accident resulted in the blockage of two westbound lanes on the interstate, necessitating traffic diversion to Varner Road, as reported by Caltrans on X shortly after 2 p.m. All lanes were reopened to traffic by 6:30 p.m.
