J D Jones Jr Obituary, Death;- Two individuals were apprehended on Monday in relation to a fatal shooting that occurred in 2024 near a gas station in Southwest Miami-Dade, according to law enforcement officials. Andrew Riley, aged 31, and John Lockley, aged 20, are facing multiple charges, including second-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office reported that on December 22, deputies responded to a shooting incident at 26500 SW 138th Court after receiving notifications from the public. Upon arrival, deputies discovered spent shell casings and blood at the scene.
An arrest report indicates that while deputies were at a nearby Wawa, a bystander informed them that two males were in a vehicle and had sustained gunshot injuries. One of the victims, identified as 37-year-old J.D. Jones Jr., was declared dead at the scene by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, as noted in the arrest report. The second victim, 25-year-old Jevon Knox, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he survived.
During the investigation, deputies interviewed Knox, who alleged that Riley and Lockley were responsible for Jones’s death and attempted to kill him as well. According to Knox, he and Jones were seated in their vehicle at the Wawa when Lockley approached them armed with a rifle. Lockley then shot Jones fatally, while Knox attempted to conceal himself behind a trash can.
The report further states that the two suspects commanded Knox to come forward, leading him to enter the front passenger seat of Jones’s vehicle. As he complied, Knox attempted to escape by jumping into the driver’s seat, but was shot twice in the back of the head by Riley. Following the shooting, Knox feigned death in a bid to survive, and the suspects, believing both victims were deceased, took Jones’s vehicle and abandoned it in the vicinity of Southwest 107th Avenue and 268th Street.
Knox informed deputies that after the vehicle was left behind, he heard the sound of a motorcycle departing the area. He then returned to the Wawa to seek assistance, as detailed in the report. As the investigation progressed, detectives continued their inquiries.
