Ann Houghton Obituary, Death; – A hiker, who had been reported missing, was discovered deceased in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, as stated by the National Park Service.
The individual, identified as 73-year-old Ann Houghton, was reported missing on February 1 after failing to return within her scheduled timeframe. She had intended to hike in the park from January 28 to January 29.
Following her disappearance, law enforcement initiated a search and rescue operation, leading to Houghton being located approximately a quarter mile from Enloe Creek Trail.
Houghton resided in Jackson County, North Carolina, and had dedicated over 20 years to volunteering at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. In 2022, she received a nomination for the National Park Service George and Helen Hartzog Awards for Outstanding Volunteer Service.
