CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — One person was injured during an accidental house fire in northwest Charlotte in which there were no smoke detectors inside, according to the Charlotte Fire Department.
Around 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, crews responded to the 4700 block of Woodway Place and saw smoke showing from the front door. It took about 12 minutes for 30 firefighters to control the blaze.
Officials say one person was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene. Two residents have been displaced due to the fire causing an estimated $43,000 in damages.
CFD said one of the occupants saw the fire in the kitchen, coming from underneath a refrigerator/freezer. Unfortunately, there were no smoke detectors in the home.
“This fire serves as a critical reminder of the importance of working smoke alarms. Through the Life-Saving Smoke Alarm Program, Charlotte Fire, in partnership with local organizations, provides and installs free smoke and carbon monoxide alarms for eligible residents,” CFD said.
