BURKE COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A man is dead and another is hurt after a crash in Burke County Saturday morning, officials say.
Troopers responded to Rhodhiss Road near Monteith Lane around 9:30 a.m. Master Trooper Christopher Casey says a 2012 Buick Lacrosse was attempting to turn left from a private driveway and pulled in front of a 2007 Dodge Dakota.
The driver of the Buick, Joe Luey Fulbright, 88, of Connelly Springs, was transported by medical helicopter to Atrium Health Carolinas in Charlotte where he later died from his injuries.
The driver of the Dakota, James Robinson Jr.,78, of Granite Falls, was treated by EMS at the scene for minor injuries.
The initial investigation showed that impairment and speed were not contributing factors in the crash. Officials say no charges will be filed in this case.
During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed for approximately one hour.
