Irvin Maurice Yerby Obituary, Death; – A 63-year-old man has died, and a 56-year-old woman is in critical condition following a single-vehicle accident in Lancaster County on Thursday evening. At 8:42 p.m. on January 30, Virginia State Police responded to the incident on Greentown Road, located just south of Gaskin Roads in the Weems area of Lancaster County.
Authorities reported that a 1997 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck overturned multiple times, resulting in the ejection of both occupants. The investigation revealed that the pickup truck was traveling south on Greentown Road when it veered off the left side of the roadway and subsequently overturned.
The driver, identified as 63-year-old Irvin Maurice Yerby from the Weems area, and the passenger, 56-year-old Martha Lynn Veney from Kilmarnock, were both thrown from the vehicle. It was noted that neither individual was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Both victims were initially transported to a local hospital and later airlifted to a facility in Richmond. Unfortunately, Yerby succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. Veney remains in critical condition, according to officials. The investigation has indicated that both alcohol and speed may have played a role in the crash, and authorities are continuing their inquiries.
