Ember Poe Obituary, Death; – A 10-year-old girl in Alabama tragically lost her life while riding a scooter in close proximity to her apartment complex. The incident occurred in November 2024 at 311 Springcreek Road in Montevallo, as reported by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities indicated that 45-year-old John David Winton was under the influence of a controlled substance at the time he collided with Ember Poe. Court documents reveal that Winton was on bond for previous drug-related charges. Deputies discovered cocaine, a scale, and a glass smoking pipe in Winton’s vehicle on the day of the incident.
Additionally, Winton allegedly confessed to law enforcement that he was driving at a speed of 80 mph in a 70 mph zone. Ember was transported to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries several days later.
In the wake of this tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign was initiated by a family friend to assist Ember’s mother.
Winton has since been arrested and charged with manslaughter.
