Portia Rowland Obituary, Death; – The Major Case Squad has been mobilized following the discovery of a woman shot dead in a driveway on the 1300 Block of Olive Street in Collinsville, Illinois.
A team of over two dozen detectives, in collaboration with the Major Case Squad, is actively investigating this tragic incident that occurred on Tuesday morning.
“I heard three shots in quick succession; it woke me up,” remarked Sierra Payne, a local resident. Residents of Collinsville are in shock after learning that their neighbor was unexpectedly shot and killed.
“It’s frightening; my heart is racing. This is too close to home. I’ve lived here for 50 years, and now I can see such events from my window,” expressed Sharilyn Lyerla, reflecting the sentiments of the community. According to the Collinsville Police Department, they responded to reports of gunfire around 6 a.m. on Tuesday and found the body of a woman in the driveway upon their arrival.
“It’s alarming; it’s truly unsettling to think that there are individuals capable of such acts,” Sierra Payne added. Later on Tuesday afternoon, authorities confirmed the identity of the victim as 32-year-old Portia Rowland. Neighbors described her as a beloved member of the community. The circumstances leading to the shooting and the identity of the perpetrator remain unclear.
The Collinsville Police Department has requested the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis to take charge of the investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to reach out to the Collinsville Police Department, as the investigation is ongoing.
