Lai Har Chu Obituary, Death; – The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified an 87-year-old woman who tragically lost her life after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Echo Park on Tuesday. The deceased has been named as Lai Har Chu, a resident of Monterey Park, as reported by the agency.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Chu was hit on January 13 at approximately 6:50 p.m. while she was walking westbound within a crosswalk at the intersection of Berkeley Avenue and Allesandro Street.
Authorities indicated that she was struck by a dark-colored Ford Transit van traveling southbound on Allesandro Street, with the driver fleeing the scene without providing assistance. The woman was pronounced dead at the location of the incident.
The police emphasized in a statement, “In the event of a traffic collision, motorists are required to stop, check on all parties involved, and request paramedics if medical attention is needed. Providing contact information is essential to ensure accountability and avoid turning a traffic incident into a criminal offense.”
The city has announced a reward of up to $50,000 for information that leads to the identification, arrest, and conviction of individuals involved in a fatal hit-and-run.
