Steve Smith Ibarra Obituary, Death; – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has confirmed the identity of the individual who was fatally injured in west Charlotte. The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Steve Smith Ibarra. Detectives from the Charlotte police are currently looking into the circumstances surrounding Ibarra’s death.
According to officials, on Saturday, January 18, at approximately 12:30 a.m., officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle near Walkers Ferry Road. The vehicle failed to stop and fled the scene. Officers did not engage in a pursuit but later located the vehicle on Windy Grove Road, close to the Catawba River. While investigating, officers reported hearing cries for help coming from a nearby body of water.
They successfully rescued Ibarra from the water and initiated life-saving measures. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Officials also noted that two officers were taken to the hospital and have since been released. The investigation into this incident remains active and ongoing.
