Lauren M. Sweeney, a vibrant and deeply loved young woman, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Prisma Health Baptist Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.
She was 21 years old and taken from this world far too soon due to natural causes. Lauren’s passing has left a deep void in the hearts of her family, friends, and the many people whose lives she touched with her kindness and passion.
Born in Sewell, New Jersey, Lauren was the cherished daughter of Gregg and Carol Ann Broll Sweeney. She was the maternal granddaughter of the late George A. and Joanne Gleba Broll and the paternal granddaughter of the late Carol Frey Sweeney.
Lauren’s family meant everything to her, and she was a devoted sister to Jillian M. Sweeney and Ryan J. Sweeney, who will always carry the memory of their sister with them.
She is also survived by her paternal grandfather, William L. Sweeney, along with a large and loving extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Lauren was not just a sister and daughter; she was a dear friend to many, creating lifelong connections with those she met and became close with over the years.
Lauren’s early years were spent in Sewell, New Jersey, where she attended Herma Simons Elementary School. In 2016, she and her family relocated to Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where she attended Central Bucks West High School.
She graduated in 2021, leaving behind a legacy of friendships and memories. Always driven, Lauren had a clear vision for her future. At the time of her passing, she was a senior at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, pursuing a degree in Exercise Science.
Her goal was to become a physical therapist, and she was set to graduate in May 2025. Lauren had already been accepted to Arcadia University to further her studies and pursue a doctorate in Physical Therapy. Her commitment to helping others was clear in every aspect of her life, from her career aspirations to her day-to-day interactions.
Lauren’s passion for helping people extended beyond her academics. She was an active member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority at the University of South Carolina, where she built meaningful relationships with her sisters and became involved in many campus activities.
Throughout her life, Lauren always found joy in helping others and making a positive impact, which was reflected in her work at the Doylestown YMCA. Her enthusiasm for life was also evident in her personal interests—she loved attending football games, especially cheering on the USC Gamecocks, and she enjoyed going to concerts and spending time with her close-knit circle of friends.
An accomplished cheerleader, Lauren spent much of her childhood involved in All-Star Cheerleading, participating in gyms such as South Jersey Storm and Victory Vipers.
Her cheerleading background helped shape the resilient, confident, and caring individual she grew to be. Through it all, she stayed true to her love of life, her drive to succeed, and her desire to make a difference in the world.
