According to reports, the former University of San Francisco Baseball Player died after a brief illness. Mychael Urban was a Bay Area sports media personality famous for his San Francisco sports radio station programs.
Mychael also worked at the SportsNet Bay Area – now known as the NBC Sports Bay Area. According to his brother Daniel who shared the sad news on his formerly Twitter – now X profile, Mike was 55 years of age at the time of his passing. Although Dan did not immediately identify Mychael’s exact cause of death, fans claim he had health complications.
Who Was Mychael Urban?
Mychael Urban was a prominent sportswriter and radio and TV host in the Bay Area. He was born and raised in San Francisco. He has covered the Golden State Warriors of the NBA, the San Francisco 49ers of the NFL, and the San Jose Sharks of the NHL, but he is best known for his multimedia coverage and analysis of the San Francisco Giants, Oakland A’s, and Major League Baseball. He has written a best-seller, appeared on ESPN, and contributed to the network’s magazine, among many other things.
After graduating from the University of San Francisco, where he played left-handed pitcher for the baseball team and earned All-West Coast Conference Scholar-Athlete honors, Mychael pursued a career in journalism. After excelling in four sports at Woodside High School, where he was named to the All-County first team in baseball and basketball and received All-Bay Area recognition in the latter, he decided to attend USF to play baseball.
While attending Canada College in Redwood City, he became the first athlete in school history and, to this day, the only athlete, to win a Central Coast Conference championship in two different sports while playing for the same team. After that, he went back to USF to finish his degree and play baseball for two more years while also serving as the sports editor of the school newspaper, the color analyst for USF basketball radio broadcasts, and the host of a late-night program on KUSF-FM.
