Nicholas Burkett Obituary, Death; – The individual who was the second fatality in a series of stabbings that took place over the weekend near the 16th Street Mall has been named.
On Wednesday, the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner confirmed that 34-year-old Nicholas Burkett succumbed to injuries from a stab wound, with the cause of death classified as homicide. Burkett was among four individuals affected by the stabbing incidents, and he was one of two who lost their lives.
On late Sunday night, authorities apprehended a suspect, 24-year-old Elijah Caudill, in relation to four distinct stabbing occurrences. Law enforcement reported that he was found in possession of a “large, butcher-style knife” at the time of his arrest.
The series of stabbings commenced on Saturday evening, with the Denver Police Department first responding to an incident at the intersection of 16th Street and California Street around 5:17 p.m. There, they discovered 71-year-old Celinda Levno, who was subsequently transported to a hospital where she was declared deceased.
Additionally, two other men were stabbed on Saturday night, both of whom are anticipated to make a full recovery. Later that night, police were called to another stabbing incident near 16th Street and Wynkoop Street, where Burkett was located and later pronounced dead at a hospital. Investigators have indicated that there appears to be no connection between the victims and the suspect.
The Denver Police Department has stated that Caudill is being held on charges including:
– First-degree murder of an at-risk elder
– First-degree murder
– Two counts of attempted first-degree murder
Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas and Mayor Mike Johnston addressed the community regarding the stabbings, characterizing the events as an “isolated, exceedingly rare” occurrence.
