CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — FEMA’s Transitional Sheltering Assistance program has extended its current hotel vouchers for Hurricane Helene victims through Jan. 25.
Current hotel occupants can remain in their lodging under the program through the night of Jan. 24, checking out the next day.
On Jan. 3, FEMA began notifying families checked into Transitional Sheltering Assistance hotels and motels if they were no longer eligible for the program. For eligible families, the program will continue through the end of March 2025.
The next eligibility review is scheduled for Jan. 17.
Families that are checking out of the hotels on Jan. 14 are returning to habitable homes or have withdrawn from the program, FEMA says.
A statement from FEMA says the assistance will end only for families who are no longer eligible due to:
- An inspection indicated their home is now habitable
- They declined an inspection
- If they are unable to contact the application to update their housing needs.
