The deceased has been named as Dora Lee Douglas. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner reported that her death resulted from thermal burn injuries and smoke inhalation.
On January 9, at approximately 3 p.m., the Charles County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to Douglas’ residence on Driftwood Place after a friend expressed concern over her inability to make contact with her for several days.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered her deceased, bearing burn injuries. The investigation into the cause of the fire and its origin remains ongoing. Investigators have suggested that it is possible Douglas inadvertently ignited her clothing by coming into contact with the kitchen stove.
