A former student at Avon Old Farms School who pleaded guilty in 2023 to secretly recording other classmates at the school has been arrested again and accused of violating his probation.

John Zadrozny, 23, of Glastonbury allegedly deleted a number of photos from his phone which were recovered and showed him hugging children, according to the arrest warrant affidavit. He is also accused of traveling out of state without his probation officer’s permission.

It is also alleged that he left the probation office abruptly at one point without being fitted for a GPS device and was argumentative and aggressive with the staff, the warrant affidavit said.

Zadrozny was charged with one count of violation of probation after his supervising officer obtained a warrant for his arrest in October, court records show. Zadrozny was previously put on probation in 2023 after taking a plea deal that required him to plead guilty to one count of voyeurism. In exchange, prosecutors dropped 16 additional counts of voyeurism and one count of third-degree possession of child pornography.

In that case, investigators found that Zadrozny, a former student and baseball player at Avon Old Farms, had recorded fellow students at the school by hiding his cellphone in bathrooms and locker rooms on the campus between December 2019 and October 2020. That investigation began after a former student received an unsolicited message on Snapchat in March 2021 from someone who requested a nude photo and was impersonating a teenage girl.

The college student discovered the Snapchat account was tied to Zadrozny, which alerted officials from Avon Old Farms that he had potentially violated the school’s code of conduct, according to the affidavit in that case. Zadrozny was charged separately by police in Watertown for impersonating a teenage girl. He pleaded guilty in Waterbury Superior Court to charges of criminal impersonation and second-degree breach of peace and was sentenced to two years of probation in that matter.

School officials who investigated the incident seized Zadrozny’s phone and later turned it over to law enforcement. Police then discovered videos that were considered child pornography, as boys depicted in them allegedly appeared as young as possibly 7 years old engaged in sexual acts, the affidavit said.

Investigators also discovered screenshot images that allegedly were taken from videos that showed males getting in and out of a shower that school officials were able to positively identify as a bathroom on campus, according to the affidavit.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit in the probation violation, Zadrozny’s probation conditions included registering as a sex offender and receiving any sex offender treatment that was deemed needed, staying away from Avon Old Farms and not having any unsupervised contact with minors. His probation began immediately after he faced sentencing in Hartford Superior Court on April 17, 2023, when he was sentenced to five years in jail, suspended, and 10 years or probation.

On May 1, 2023, Zadrozny’s probation officer contacted him and directed him to register with the state’s Sex Offender Registry, which was a stipulation of the sentence he received, the warrant affidavit said. Two days later, the registry contacted the probation office and said he had still not registered, according to the warrant affidavit. Zadrozny reportedly registered the next day.

According to the warrant affidavit, Zadrozny was accepted into Johns Hopkins University but his offer was rescinded when university officials learned of his criminal history. He was allowed to attend Manchester Community College provided he agreed not to come to campus before 4 p.m. with the exception of one class he took, the warrant affidavit said. He was also supposed to check in with campus police each time he arrived and was not to engage in any extracurricular activities.

Zadrozny’s probation officer alleges he repeatedly broke the rules and was instructed not to return to the college, court documents said. Court documents also said Zadrozny allegedly argued with probation staff about the condition that he not have unsupervised contact with minors.

In July, Zardozny allegedly told his probation officer he was planning on attending New York University but did not have prior approval from his supervising officer, the warrant affidavit said. His request to transfer his probation to New York was later denied after multiple requests.

Zadrozny allegedly called his probation officer six times on Sept. 10 and showed up to the probation office unannounced to discuss the transfer denial, according to the warrant affidavit. He allegedly became “verbally aggressive and combative” with staff, the warrant affidavit said.

In October, a probation officer asked for Zadrozny’s phone during an office visit and found several deleted photos that showed he had gone to a concert at Fenway Park in Massachusetts and an event at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, the warrant affidavit said. Photos showing Zadrozny allegedly hugging children during a pre-approved trip to Mexico were also found, according to the warrant affidavit. The location information on the phone also allegedly showed that he had gone to Yankee Stadium in New York.

Zadrozny’s supervising officer asked for his laptop but he said he was unsure as to where it was, according to the warrant affidavit. The officer made arrangements to put a GPS device on Zadrozny based on his “unapproved out-of-state travel,” but he left the office before it could be done, the warrant affidavit said.

According to court records, Zadrozny is free on a $100,000 bond while his probation violation case is pending in Hartford Superior Court. The attorney representing him did not immediately return a request for comment.

Court records also indicate Zadrozny has filed a civil action in an attempt to remove himself from the Sex Offender Registry. He is being represented in those proceedings by the Connecticut Innocence Project — which declined to comment.

According to the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice, Zadrozny filed a petition for a writ of habeas corpus in 2023, and the amended petition is due to be submitted by Jan. 21, 2026. The DCJ said it will “review the petition upon receipt and respond in accordance with established legal procedures.”
