The death of Rudy A. Benedetti occurred on Friday, January 10, 2025. Beloved husband of Barbara M. Benedetti and the late Alda L. Benedetti, son of the late Angelo and Mary Benedetti. Dear stepfather of Richard McCarrick (Mary Jo) of Verona, Jeffrey (Mary Jane) McCarrick of Plum, and the late Margo Stocker; cherished father of Judy (Peggy) Isaksen of North Carolina, Janis (Michael) Zurich of Upper St. Clair, and Barry (Leanna) Benedetti of North Huntingdon.
Predeceased by brothers Dan and Angelo Benedetti and sister Laura Hrutkay, he was a special grandfather to 13 grandkids, a great-grandfather to 17, and the brother of Robert from Texas, Jack from Arizona, and Albert from Missouri.
Rudy, who owned Dependable Sales in Monessen for 19 years, served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1966 while working for People’s Natural Gas Co., he sold the company.
He retired from People’s in 1989, and after retirement he served as an energy conservation consultant with People’s for 27 years. Rudy served on many boards and organizations, including the Monessen City Planning Commission as chairman, the Builders Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh, the Pennsylvania Builders Association, and Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh.
Rudy received two Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Community Champion selections and was recognized an Associate Builder for the State of Pennsylvania in 1979. In addition to winning the AARP Andrus Award for Community Service for the State of Pennsylvania in 2006, he was recognized as the Dominion Peoples Volunteer of the Year in 2001.
