Rhonda Powell,Braylon Powell Obituary, Death; – A man from Louisiana, arrested for the tragic stabbings that resulted in the deaths of a woman and two children, was reportedly undergoing treatment for schizophrenia and began experiencing auditory hallucinations the day prior, according to a family member.
The 30-year-old resident of Amite faces three counts of first-degree murder following the incidents that occurred on Thursday. Family members have identified the victims as the suspect’s one-year-old son, Hayden Madison; his sister, Rhonda Powell, aged 40; and Powell’s ten-year-old son, Braylon Powell.
As of Saturday, the suspect remained in custody in St. Helena Parish, and a sheriff’s dispatcher indicated uncertainty regarding whether he had appeared before a judge or retained legal counsel. The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that all three victims were deceased upon the deputies’ arrival at the scene.
According to cousin Deondra Robertson-Warner, the suspect and his son were residing with Powell. She informed WBRZ-TV that relatives had taken him to a hospital the day before the stabbings due to his auditory hallucinations.
Robertson-Warner stated that the hospital prescribed a different medication than what he typically received and declined to admit him for inpatient psychiatric care, despite family requests citing his aggressive behavior.
“No one in that home survived because the mental health system failed him,” Robertson-Warner expressed to WAFB-TV. “Had he been committed, he would be where he needed to be today, and my other family members would be alive.”
