Randall Miod Obituary, Death; – A mother is grieving the loss of her 55-year-old son, who she claims perished while attempting to safeguard his residence from the wildfires in California. He is among at least 16 confirmed casualties.
Carol Smith’s son, Randall Miod, aged 55, died in the place he cherished most: his home in Malibu. Smith reports that investigators discovered human remains at her son’s residence. He was the sole occupant who opted not to evacuate.
According to Smith, Miod’s home, the only property he ever owned, held immense sentimental value for him. She states that he was resolute in his decision to defend his cherished house and was unwilling to leave when the fires erupted. “He felt incredibly fortunate to live in Malibu. It was his lifelong dream, as he had been surfing since his teenage years,” Smith shared with CNN.
On Tuesday, the mother and son spoke over the phone, during which Miod informed her that he had a garden hose prepared. Smith believes he was unaware of the extent to which the flames would escalate, as reported by CNN.
“He had survived numerous fires in the past without any harm. I think he believed he could do so once more,” Smith recounted to CNN. “Now that I reflect on the countless memories he created in that home, I can comprehend why he was reluctant to leave.”
The Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office announced on Saturday night that the wildfires in the region have resulted in at least 16 fatalities, according to the Associated Press. The fires have ravaged a minimum of 12,000 structures, the majority of which are residential properties.
