Kelly Meazell Obituary, Death; – The family of a woman who was tragically murdered in East Austin is seeking answers regarding her death.
Kelly Meazell, aged 35, was discovered deceased on Thursday, January 9, in the parking lot of an apartment complex. “She was an incredibly caring and joyful individual, always laughing and radiating happiness,” stated Katherine Stephens, Meazell’s half-sister.
Stephens recounted her last conversation with Meazell. “She mentioned that she was in the process of packing her belongings, as she had finally found a place to stay,” Stephens explained. “To learn just two days later that she had been murdered is simply unfathomable.”
Meazell was found early Thursday morning, lying in a pool of blood with visible signs of trauma around her neck. The perpetrator or perpetrators responsible for her death remain at large.
“I am determined to remove from the streets those who are capable of such violence, to ensure the safety of this community,” remarked Austin Police Homicide Detective Jason Jones. “I hope that when they rest, they are haunted by the memories of their actions against my sister,” added Stephens.
Meazell was located in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Manor Road in East Austin. Her family indicated that she was homeless, but that this area was where she often stayed. “I know many people recognized her; she had numerous friends in that vicinity. I implore anyone with information, even if they wish to remain anonymous, to come forward,” Stephens urged.
Detective Jones noted, “The difficulty in this investigation stems from the reluctance of many individuals in the community to share information with us. For various reasons, they hesitate to come forward. That is why we encourage anonymous tips to facilitate the sharing of information.”
This incident marks the second homicide in Austin this year, with both victims being homeless. “Many individuals experiencing homelessness may lead lifestyles that are inherently risky, often involving substance use.”
