CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A former teacher at a Huntersville private school pleaded guilty and was sentenced Thursday in connection to having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
Tyler Dean Melton, now 27, was charged in December 2023 with sexual activity with a student and indecent liberties with a student while employed at SouthLake Christian Academy. Court records show the incident occurred in April 2023, and he resigned shortly after the school launched an internal investigation.
On Thursday, he pleaded guilty to crimes against nature, and Superior Court Judge William Bell sentenced him to four-to-14 months in prison. The other two charges were dropped in the plea.
The Cornelius Police Department led the criminal investigation.
