Timothy Corlew Obituary, Death; – A deputy from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department tragically lost his life on Wednesday due to a collision between his patrol motorcycle and an SUV on the Riverside (91) Freeway.
Deputy Timothy Corlew sustained fatal injuries around 5:30 a.m. on the westbound side of the freeway at La Sierra Avenue in Riverside, as reported by the California Highway Patrol. “It was an accident,” stated CHP Officer Javier Navarro to City News Service. “Our Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team is currently on-site, collecting further information.”
Witnesses informed the CHP that Corlew’s motorcycle and a dark-colored SUV were involved in the collision, although additional details could not be immediately verified.
Navarro indicated that a statement regarding the incident would be issued later in the afternoon. Deputy Corlew was transported to Riverside Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Information regarding the other driver remains unavailable.
“No arrests have been made, and it appears unlikely that any criminal charges will arise from this incident, based on the current information,” Navarro remarked. Sheriff Chad Bianco expressed his condolences through social media, stating, “With immense sadness and a heavy heart, I must report that the sheriff’s office has lost another deputy in a line-of-duty death.”
He noted that Corlew was affiliated with the sheriff’s Jurupa Valley Station, but no further details about the deputy’s tenure or background were disclosed. The previous line-of-duty death occurred in May 2023, when 27-year-old Deputy Brett Michael Harris was responding to a backup call and was fatally injured in a San Jacinto intersection after his patrol SUV was struck by a sedan. The other driver sustained minor injuries.
This incident marked the third in a series of on-duty fatalities within a span of approximately four months. Prior to Deputy Harris, 30-year-old Deputy Darnell Calhoun was killed in January 2023 during an alleged ambush by a convicted felon involved in a domestic violence situation in Lakeland Village.
