James Leon Craig Obituary, Death; – An altercation within a residence in south Birmingham resulted in gunfire, leading to the death of a man and injuries to a woman. On Monday, authorities identified the deceased as James Leon Craig, aged 40. The incident occurred at 2:31 a.m. on Sunday at a property located in the 10 block of 17th Court South, situated in south Titusville.
Upon arrival, Birmingham police discovered both individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. The Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service transported the victims to UAB Hospital, where Craig was pronounced dead later that evening. The woman sustained injuries that are not considered life-threatening. Investigators suspect that a domestic dispute precipitated the double shooting.
Police reported that several individuals were present at the residence, all of whom remained at the scene and were subsequently interviewed by detectives. One individual is currently in custody. This incident marks the third homicide in Birmingham for the year, while Jefferson County has recorded a total of six homicides thus far in 2025.
