Kaitlyn Rose Sawyer Obituary, Death; – A cell phone played a crucial role in uncovering the site of a fatal accident along Highway 178 on Saturday, as reported by the California Highway Patrol.
On January 4, at approximately 9:50 p.m., the CHP Bakersfield area office received a call concerning the location of a missing person based on a ping from a mobile device. In response, the CHP and the Kern County Sheriff’s Office proceeded to mile post marker 36 on Highway 178, where they discovered the vehicle of the missing individual situated down the canyon, exhibiting significant roll damage.
Upon further investigation, the CHP determined that the driver of a 1999 Ford Ranger, identified as 24-year-old Kaitlyn Rose Sawyer, was heading eastbound on Highway 178 when, for reasons yet to be established, the vehicle veered off the road and plunged into the canyon, resulting in Sawyer’s death.
Traffic was disrupted for approximately six hours. The California Highway Patrol has indicated that it remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol contributed to this incident.
