Caleb O’Neal Scott Obituary, Death; – Troopers have confirmed the identity of the individual who lost his life on an East Valley freeway last week and suspect that the driver of the vehicle he was a passenger in may have been under the influence.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Friday, a white Infiniti passenger vehicle was traveling in the westbound lanes of Loop 202 near Gilbert Road when the 19-year-old driver from Surprise lost control and collided with a barrier wall.
DPS reports that two passengers exited the vehicle and were standing on the roadway when they were struck by a silver Ford SUV, resulting in the Infiniti catching fire. One of the passengers, identified as 20-year-old Caleb O’Neal Scott from Phoenix, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators suspect that the driver of the Infiniti, who sustained minor injuries, was impaired during the incident, and charges are anticipated. The driver of the silver Ford SUV is not expected to face any charges.
The investigation remains ongoing.
