Shortly after midnight on January 1, officers responded to a residence in Kissimmee following reports of a shooting, according to a statement from the city’s police department.
The victim, identified as 56-year-old Carmen Rosa Neira Ochoa, suffered injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. She was transported to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. This tragic event occurred just days before Ochoa’s birthday on January 4. Her son-in-law, Alex Marquez, expressed his grief to Fox 35 Orlando, stating, “She didn’t do anything to anyone. She was a hard-working mother.” Marquez recounted that he and his wife had recently dropped Ochoa off at home after dinner when they received the heartbreaking news from his sister-in-law.
He described the moments leading up to the shooting, saying, “We have a screen porch by the pool area. Just like anybody would go out to the porch to take a breath of air, she was just looking at the fireworks. In the blink of an eye, she was shot on the floor.” Neighbor Javier Prado remarked on the unexpected tragedy, noting, “These people have been here for years, and it’s just amazing what just happens from just one blink of an eye, you know,” as he shared his shock with WKMG.
