Brandon Montez Mcilwain Obituary, Death; – A man from Birmingham, who was fatally shot in a Hoover incident on Christmas Eve, was identified on Thursday.
Lieutenant Daniel Lowe of the Hoover Police Department reported that officers responded to a 911 call at an apartment located in the 2200 block of Rime Village Drive around 11 p.m. on Tuesday. Upon arrival, law enforcement found an individual with a gunshot wound.
Both officers and paramedics from the Hoover Fire Department attempted to perform life-saving measures on the victim. The individual, later identified as 35-year-old Brandon Montez Mcilwain, was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital.
At the scene, police apprehended 29-year-old Anthony Keith Russell, who is known to have had a relationship with the victim. According to Lieutenant Lowe, investigators believe that a physical altercation occurred between the suspect and the victim in the apartment, during which the suspect allegedly discharged a firearm, resulting in at least one bullet striking the victim. The investigation is ongoing.
Russell faces a murder charge and is currently being held at the Hoover City Jail, pending his transfer to the Jefferson County Jail. Lowe noted that this Christmas Eve homicide marks the first non-traffic-related homicide in Hoover since October 2022.
