A shooting incident at Castleton Square Mall on Sunday evening has prompted a heavy police response and placed the entire mall on lockdown. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) confirmed they are investigating reports of shots fired inside the mall.
Emergency calls were made Monday night with witnesses reporting gunfire in one of the mall’s central areas. Officers arrived swiftly, securing entrances and working to evacuate or shelter patrons as they assessed the situation.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether there are any injuries or fatalities associated with the incident. Shoppers and employees inside the mall have been instructed to remain in lockdown for their safety as officers continue to sweep the premises.
Videos circulating on social media show many law enforcement vehicles surrounding the area, with armed officers entering the building. Concerned family members and residents have gathered outside the mall, waiting for updates on their loved ones.
“This is a fluid situation,” said an IMPD spokesperson. “We ask everyone to avoid the area and allow emergency responders to work.”
Castleton Square Mall is the largest shopping center in Indiana and typically sees high foot traffic, especially during weekends and holidays. This incident has left the community shaken as many recall past violent events at the same location.
Police have not yet released information about any suspects or motives behind the reported shooting. Further details are expected as the investigation unfolds.
