Markela Howliet Obituary, Death; – A 21-year-old woman from East St. Louis was shot and killed on Sunday night, as confirmed by police. The victim, Markela Howliet, was identified by St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. Illinois State Police reported that agents from its Public Safety Enforcement Group responded to the scene in the 400 block of N Sixth Street after the East St. Louis Police Department received a report of a shooting around 7:27 p.m.
Officers discovered Howliet in the parking lot, where she was subsequently pronounced dead. According to Dye, Howliet’s last known residence was in the 400 block of N. Sixth Street. This incident marks the 16th homicide reported in East St. Louis this year, as noted by the BND.
