A man allegedly drove at officers while trying to elude police during an attempted motor vehicle stop in Cromwell on Saturday.

The driver of a Kenworth tractor-trailer allegedly refused to comply as officers initiated a motor vehicle stop at an undisclosed location just after 2:20 a.m. on Saturday, according to the Cromwell Police Department.

The driver continued into a parking lot where he was identified as 43-year-old David Dasilva of Cromwell, police said. Officers were familiar with Dasilva and knew he had a felony warrant out for his arrest, according to police.

Officers tried to remove Dasilva from the vehicle, but he allegedly refused to cooperate with their orders, police said. He then allegedly began driving erratically through the parking lot while trying to elude officers, according to police.

Cromwell officers, as well as those from the Middletown Police Department, tried stopping Dasilva multiple times, police said. During the attempts, police allege he drove his vehicle toward officers and caused extensive damage to the parking lot.

Dasilva was apprehended after police disabled the vehicle.

Dasilva faces charges of interfering with an officer, second-degree breach of peace, first-degree reckless endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief, weapons in a motor vehicle, use of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, failure to display a marker plate,  failure to obey an officer’s signal, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, insufficient insurance, operating a motor vehicle under suspension, operating a commercial motor vehicle without a license, reckless driving and theft of a stolen marker plate.

He was taken into custody and was expected to appear in Middletown Superior Court on Monday.
