Orlando, Florida. ~ Two law enforcement officers were injured as a result of a shooting that took place on Friday night in Orlando, Florida. Officers reportedly pulled over a vehicle that they believed to be associated with a murder after receiving information that it had been halted. During a news briefing held on Saturday morning, Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith stated that the alleged gunman was killed in a shootout with SWAT personnel that took place inside of a hotel. Smith claims that the incident began at 11 o’clock in the evening local time when police officers halted a car that was being sought in connection with a homicide that had taken place in Miami. During the traffic stop, the suspect is said to have been standing outside the vehicle when he opened fire and injured both of the officers. After the shooting, the suspect eventually drove away from the site in another car.
After what Smith referred to as a “extensive search,” the police were able to find the suspect at six in the morning on Saturday at a Holiday Inn. According to Smith, the search that the police did was comprehensive. The hotel was able to be safely evacuated, and Smith claims that the suspect barricaded himself inside one of the rooms once he was discovered. Smith claims that there were “several attempts made to get the suspect to safely surrender,” but that none of those attempts were successful.
Smith asserts that the individual started shooting at SWAT cops just a few minutes before 9 a.m., and that he fired “multiple times” at them. According to Smith, the police officers responded with fire, striking the perpetrator and ultimately resulting in his death. After conducting an investigation, the police decided that Daton Viel, who is 28 years old, should be considered a suspect.
At the Orlando Regional Medical Center, the conditions of the cops who were shot while conducting a traffic check were characterized as being life-threatening. The officers had been shot while conducting a traffic check. On Saturday, representatives from Orlando Health stated that they have a high level of confidence that the patients will make a full recovery from their injuries.
Following the event, Smith was quoted as saying, “Our officers are extremely fortunate to be alive, and we ask that you continue to pray for them.” “I am grateful.” The head of the department described the event as a catastrophe for the organization in his report. “It’s ridiculous that some piece of crap would do this to them just because they don’t want to go back to prison,” said Smith. “For some piece of crap to do this to them.” “That’s completely absurd.” “From this point on, we are not going to put up with this. We are not going to back down from the fight against criminals or from our commitment to ensuring the continued safety of our neighborhoods. Buddy Dyer, the Mayor of Orlando, published a post on social media in which he complimented the law enforcement personnel “who’ve ensured that the suspect is no longer a threat to our community.” The remark was in response to the fact that the suspect had been apprehended.
