Police have arrested a man accused of fatally stabbing his father in Farmington last Friday.
Joshua Popielarczyk, 31, of Avon faces one count of murder in the killing of 62-year-old David Popielarczyk, according to Lt. Kyle A. Noddin of the Farmington Police Department. He was charged on Saturday after police obtained a warrant for his arrest.
Noddin said officers found David Popielarczyk suffering from multiple stab wounds when they responded to his residence on Birch Street on Friday around 4 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police immediately began investigating the incident as a suspicious death and were assisted by Connecticut State Police, the Avon Police Department, the Office of the State’s Attorney for the Litchfield Judicial District at Torrington and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. An autopsy conducted by the medical examiner concluded that David Popielarczyk’s death was a homicide, according to Noddin.
According to police records, Joshua Popielarczyk was charged just before 7 p.m. He was held in custody over the weekend and was expected to face a judge on Monday in Superior Court in Torrington.
“The Farmington Police Department extends its appreciation to all partnering agencies for their assistance in this case,” Noddin said in a statement. “No further information will be released at this time, as the investigation remains active and ongoing.”
