Authorities have released new information regarding a high-speed pursuit that ended with the suspect driving the wrong way on the I-15 freeway and colliding with a California Highway Patrol (CHP) vehicle.
On November 18, 2024, at about 1:30 pm, Deputy L. Torres initiated a follow-up investigation concerning a stolen trailer.
Following an extensive investigation, Deputy Torres traced the stolen trailer to a dirt lot near the intersection of Helendale Road and Jasper Stone Road in Helendale.
At approximately 3:40 p.m., investigators arrived at the specified location, where the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Aviation Division (40K) successfully identified the stolen trailer on the property.
They observed a white male adult and a white female adult entering a white 2017 Toyota Corolla and departing the scene.
Deputies attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle driven by 40-year-old Michael Crummel, a resident of Hesperia. Crummel failed to comply, prompting a pursuit that spanned 55 miles and reached speeds of 115 mph. The pursuit escalated as deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Barstow Station joined the chase on Highway 58.
