A man was shot in the chest while returning home on Saturday evening. The shooting occurred just after 7 p.m. on the 2000 block of East Cheltenham Avenue, located in the city’s northeast section.
Police found a man in his early forties with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 7:30 p.m. Investigators determined that the victim had just arrived at his home and was getting out of his car when a gold-colored Chevy SUV pulled up, and the driver opened fire.
“There’s no question that the individual was targeted. He was ambushed as he exited his vehicle,” Inspector Pace said. The gunman fired at least seven rounds, striking the victim’s car and shattering the driver’s side window, Pace added.
After the shooting, the suspect stopped at a traffic light at the end of the block, where he remained for two cycles before speeding away, police said.
