Fatal Crash in Pleasant Township, Ohio Claims One Life, Injures Two
A devastating single-vehicle accident occurred Monday night in Pleasant Township, Ohio, resulting in the loss of one life and injuring two others. The incident happened around 9:15 p.m. near the intersection of U.S. Route 68 and Township Road 114.
According to Hardin County Sheriff Keith Everhart, Lee Newman of Dunkirk was driving northbound when his vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree.
Tragically, front-seat passenger James Hagenbuch was pronounced dead at the scene. Backseat passenger Douglas Inmon, also from Dunkirk, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus for treatment. Newman sustained minor injuries and was initially taken to a local hospital before being transferred to another facility.
Multiple emergency agencies responded, including the Kenton Fire Department, BKP EMS, McGuffey Fire Department, and Hardin County Coroner’s Office. Air medical services from Lifeflight, Careflight, and Medflight provided critical support.
The Multi-County Crash Team is investigating the cause of the crash. Authorities are exploring potential factors, including speed, road conditions, and driver impairment.
Sheriff Everhart extended condolences to James Hagenbuch’s family and emphasized the importance of road safety, particularly at night. The community mourns Hagenbuch’s loss and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.
