A fatal shooting took place on the night of Wednesday, October 30, in Columbus, Georgia, claiming the life of 38-year-old Sekedra McCoy.
According to the Columbus Police Department (CPD), officers were dispatched at 8:34 p.m. to the Elizabeth Canty Homes on 200 20th Avenue following a report of gunfire in the area.
Upon arrival, police discovered McCoy with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency personnel administered immediate aid, and McCoy was transported to a local hospital. However, despite medical efforts, she was pronounced dead at 10:45 p.m. by Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.
The CPD’s Violent Crimes Unit has taken charge of the investigation as authorities work to understand the circumstances surrounding McCoy’s death.
The motive and events leading up to the shooting remain unclear, and investigators are gathering evidence and reviewing surveillance footage in an effort to identify suspects or witnesses.
This shooting has left the Columbus community shaken, especially those in the Elizabeth Canty Homes area, which has seen a rise in violent incidents in recent months.
