Kai Thompson Accident; What Happened To Kai Thompson In Serious Surfing Accident
According to reports on October 10, 2024, Kai Thompson was in a bad accident. Following the tragic incident, a GoFundMe page was created to help KaiThompson_1MoreWave and his family.
GoFundMe statement
Kai is currently in ICU at СНО. He has a grade 4 tear to his liver and to his kidney causing internal bleeding. This is the greatest concern. He has lacerations to the face, mouth, and tongue that were finally stitched up. He has a broken nose that he will have his first surgery for in the next ten days. He has bruised ribs, a broken pelvis, and a severe concussion.
However, none of the focus has been on those injuries as the greatest concern has been the internal bleeding. We hesitated to put anything out on social media as the situation is fluid, but we have been overwhelmed with all the calls and messages for Kai, and we realize there’s a lot of people that love him and want to know what’s going on. He was in an accident Saturday morning just two streets away from our house on his way to go surf.
We are dealing with a heavy situation, and the point of sharing this is to get as much positive thoughts, prayers, and positive energy out there for Kai right now. He made it through the night without a transfusion or surgery.
He is continuing to bleed, but at this point, it’s controlled enough they are waiting to intervene. He’s in a lot of pain, and it’s hard to talk, but the good news is there’s no trauma to the brain.
Right now, we are just all holding our breath, as the surgeon said, and praying that the bleeding remains controlled. Thanks to everyone that has reached out; we appreciate it so, so much. Feel free to leave a positive message, and when Kai’s up to it, I will read him all of them. I know it will mean a lot.
On October 17, Kai’s parent gave an update on his condition; We are so happy to have Kai back at home & being able to handle his recovery now as an outpatient. He has made a lot of progress these past few days and we couldn’t be more grateful. He had another CT today (& was even able to have a quick lunch at sessions) & we meet with the trauma team tomorrow where they will assess if the liver and kidney are healing properly, fingers crossed it’s all good news.
