Before he was ever conceived, both of his parents, Joseph Sr. Griggs and Aldona Griggs (Rice), as well as his sister, Janet Griggs, had already passed away. He was the only child in the Griggs family to be born after their deaths. He was an only child and had no brothers or sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Griggs (Lafreniere), of Waterbury; his daughters, Christine Griggs and Michele Griggs, both of Wolcott; Jennifer Guzzardi and her husband, Frank, of Bristol; Michelle Remele and her husband, Richard Griffin, of Mount Dora, Florida; his sister.
Margaret Geary, also of Waterbury; and his grandchildren, Taylor, Logan, Dominic, and Jacob. He also leaves behind his sister, Margaret Geary, of Waterbury.
