Paul Lowe Photographer Obituary, Death; Renowned photojournalist allegedly killed by his son – According to social media posts, the man who officials claim was killed by his son near Mt. Baldy over the weekend was a well-known photojournalist.
“It is with deep sorrow that we share the news of the passing of our dear friend and colleague Paul Lowe, whose brilliant life was cut short in Los Angeles, California on Saturday,” according to a social media statement by VII picture Agency, an international picture agency. “Paul was a courageous and beloved teammate, as well as a caring father and husband. The death is terrible and upsetting, and our thoughts go out to his wife and family.”
Sheriff’s deputies in Los Angeles County responded to an attack on Mt. Baldy Road in the San Gabriel Mountains around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the department. Deputies discovered a male with chest damage; he died at the scene, according to officials.
A man later identified as Emir Abadzic Lowe crashed his car while driving away, about a mile from the crime scene; he was held by deputies in connection with the homicide investigation, authorities said. Emir Lowe was recognized as the victim’s 19-year-old son.
Emir Lowe was arrested on suspicion of murdering his father based on “evidence at the scene” and testimonies from the son and other witnesses, investigators said. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged Emir Lowe with murder. The Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office declared Lowe’s death a homicide, citing a stab wound to the neck.
Lara Jo Regan, a fellow photojournalist and Lowe’s coworker, informed KTLA that Lowe was in Southern California for family reasons. They were meant to meet, but Regan has never heard from him.
“I went on Facebook, and I was going to DM him to see what was up,” she told me. “Then the first thing that came up was news of his death on his agency’s website in New York.” I was completely shocked. “I’m still shocked.”
Lowe was a British photojournalist who captured several important occasions, including the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the siege of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital, during the Bosnian War.
