On the morning of October 15, 2024, a serious multi-vehicle collision occurred on Canyon Road between Military Road and 160th, leading to a significant emergency response.
Central Pierce Fire and Rescue teams arrived at the scene and transported several injured individuals to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. The collision resulted in both directions of the road being shut down for several hours as authorities worked to clear the wreckage and assess the situation.
Witnesses at the scene reported that the driver of a large semi-truck appeared to have run a red light, striking two vehicles that were in the process of making left turns on green lights.
After hitting the first two vehicles, the truck then collided with a third vehicle. Some bystanders commented that it seemed like the truck driver did not apply the brakes until after the initial impact, which worsened the damage.
The semi-truck caused substantial damage to the base of a nearby utility pole during the crash. Fortunately, the truck driver was not injured, but the collision led to extensive damage to the involved vehicles and disruptions to traffic.
Emergency services worked efficiently to transport the injured to medical facilities and ensure the safety of others in the area. An investigation into the cause of the crash is likely underway.
