White Bear Lake High School Lockdown; Police Investigation Ongoing: White Bear Lake Area High School (WBLAHS) was momentarily locked down on Monday, October 7, due to a “student situation.”
According to High School Principal Russ Reetz, a WBLAHS student notified administration of a potential threat. The threat assessment team convened to analyse the veracity of the threat.
“Our school resource officers coordinated with the White Bear Lake Police Department to bring more officers to the high school. We placed the student on hold while we located him, and then we went into lockdown as we continued our investigation,” Reetz explained. “Law enforcement officials determined that the item in question was a replica weapon.”
The lockdown was removed when police and administration determined that the building was safe, and the school was placed on hold for the balance of the school day (about 45 minutes). Students were free to leave at the end of the school day as they normally would. After-school activities were not affected.
The district asks families to contact them with any questions or suggestions for how to talk with their student(s) about what transpired.
