A judge convicted a North Liberty man guilty of raping Waterloo and Cedar Falls women in spring 2023 after breaking into their houses. He is scheduled to stand trial in January for rape in Iowa City in 2022.
Asante Ajee Walker-Garcia Adams, 27, waived his jury trial in the Waterloo and Cedar Falls attacks so Black Hawk County District Court Judge David Odekirk could decide based on investigative data. September 11th saw the case filed. Asante Walker-Garcia Adams
Odekirk convicted Walker-Garcia Adams of second-degree sexual assault and first-degree burglary this Thursday. The sentence will be delayed. The ruling states that the Cedar Falls rape DNA matched his profile and that less than 1 in 7.4 octillion people have such DNA profile. The Waterloo DNA match was 1 in 280 quadrillion.
On March 10, 2023, Walker-Garcia Adams allegedly assaulted a lady in an apartment complex near Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo. In Cedar Falls on April 10, 2023, he attacked a woman in her College Street flat near the University of Northern Iowa.
The attackers had or claimed knives in both situations. In his ruling, Odekirk stated that the suspect’s strategy was to find unlocked flats, enter, and threaten the female tenant with a knife. “The suspect would then sexually assault the woman, take her electronics, and throw them outside the apartment before fleeing.”
In Waterloo, a man entered the flat through an unsecured door and sexually attacked the mother in another room while she was sleeping with her son. He stole her phone, but she used her son’s iPad to call for help.
The Cedar Falls attacker cut a window screen and opened an unlocked living room window. He solicited the woman for money and stole her phone and iPad after the attack.
Walker-Garcia Adams is charged with a September 2022 Iowa City attack. As police searched for a suspect, his wife confronted him, claiming he was in the attack area and that security footage showed him.
Johnson County District Court may hold a trial in January. He was also suspected of a Centre Point robbery in May 2023, court documents show.
