According to information provided by Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Justin Chesson, a construction contract worker at a Jefferson County facility died tragically in an industrial accident on Thursday morning after falling between 60 and 70 feet.
According to Capt. Crystal Holmes of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Cameron Powell, 36, of Vidor is the victim.
Just beyond the Beaumont city limits, on Twin City Highway, is the former Beaumont Works terminal housing the Beaumont Clean Ammonia facility. Deputies and other emergency personnel raced to the scene. After the man fell in a tank, it was described as a traumatic injury.
Powell reportedly fell between 60 and 70 feet while working inside an OCI plant tank.
Judge Chesson stated that the guy was transported by EMS to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he passed away at approximately 9:30 a.m.
In response to the deadly industrial tragedy, Woodside Energy released the following statement late on Thursday:
An incident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. CDT Thursday at the Beaumont Clean Ammonia site in Texas which has tragically resulted in the death of an employee of one of OCI’s construction contractors.
The Beaumont Clean Ammonia site is owned by Woodside Energy and construction is managed by OCI.
The incident occurred during work activity being carried out at the site. All other people at the site are safe and accounted for.
Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill said, “This is a very sad day, and I offer my deepest sympathy to our colleague’s family, friends and workmates.
“The safety of our workforce is always our top priority, and we are providing full support to OCI and its contracting company.
“We are taking steps to understand the circumstances around this tragic event and are working closely with relevant authorities and regulators, OCI and the contractor company. A full investigation will be initiated and a stand down of all work is currently in place.”
